  • Robert Bell declared a conflict on this item. (Robert Bell made a declaration of interest concerning the Presentation from Planning Services regarding the Zoning By-law Amendment at 39 Athol Street West as he is a member of Simcoe Street United Church, he is a board member, and he sits on various committees and did not take part in voting or discussion on that item.)

Harrison Whilsmith, Planner A, provided a presentation concerning an application for a zoning by-law amendment at 39 Athol Street West.

Members of the Committee questioned the Planner A.

    That based on the presentation from Planning Services concerning a Zoning By-law amendment for 39 Athol Street West, Heritage Oshawa recommends:

    1. That the proposed building be reduced in height from the current 12 stories to 6 stories to protect the sight lines of the Anglican Church next door; and,
    2. That a plaque be installed to the side of the proposed building to reflect the previous home on the site; and, 
    3. That Heritage Oshawa be consulted and approve regarding the contents and location of the plaque.

Harrison Whilsmith, Planner A, provided a presentation concerning an application for site plan approval at 4681 Old Simcoe Street.

Members of the Committee questioned the Planner A.

    That based on the Presentation from Planning Services concerning the Site Plan Approval at 4681 Old Simcoe Street that a Evaluation of 4681 Old Simcoe Street Working Group be created in order to do an in-house evaluation at the property as outlined in Section 3 of the Work Plan; and,

    That the Working Group consist of three members of the Heritage Oshawa Committee; and,

    That Alan Willison, Patty Davis and Diane Stephen be appointed the Working Group; and,

    That Patty Davis be appointed as Chair of the Evaluation of 4681 Old Simcoe Street Working Group.

    1. That Heritage Oshawa recommend that all additions to the existing structure and construction of new garage be in keeping with the Heritage character of the existing structure; and,
    2. That the existing garage be retained. 

    A request was made to divide the motion in order to vote on each part separately.

    That the Working Group consist of three members of the Heritage Oshawa Committee; and,

    That Alan Willison, Chris Lapa and Robert Bell be appointed to the Working Group; and,

    That Chris Lapa be appointed as Chair of the Research Report Working Group.

    That a Heritage Oshawa Brochures Working Group be created in order to address Section 2B of the Work Plan to update, improve, and enlarge type and quality of all brochures related to the Heritage Oshawa Committee; and,

    That the Working Group consist of three members of the Heritage Oshawa Committee; and,

    That Robert Bell, Diane Stephen and Patty Davis be appointed to the Working Group; and,

    That Diane Stephen be appointed as Chair of the Heritage Oshawa Brochures Working Group.

    That Heritage Oshawa members be provided with identification cards to identify themselves at events around the City of Oshawa.
