Dot McFarlane, Chair called the meeting to order and stated that all members of the Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee were in attendance in the Committee Room except Amit Arora, Anagha Sumant, Gino Vendetti and Councillor McConkey who were participating electronically and Adeel Haq, Julia McCrea (entered the meeting at 6:52 p.m.) and Shanjay Kailayanathan (entered the meeting at 6:53 p.m.) who were absent.

The City of Oshawa is situated on lands within the traditional and treaty territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Anishinaabeg and the signatories of the Williams Treaties, which include the Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Alderville First Nations, and the Chippewas of Georgina Island, Rama and Beausoleil First Nations.

We are grateful for the Anishinaabeg who have cared for the land and waters within this territory since time immemorial.

We recognize that Oshawa is steeped in rich Indigenous history and is now present day home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis people. We express gratitude for this diverse group of Indigenous Peoples who continue to care for the land and shape and strengthen our community.

As a municipality, we are committed to understanding the truth of our shared history, acknowledging our role in addressing the negative impacts that colonization continues to have on Indigenous Peoples, developing reciprocal relationships, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.

We are all Treaty people.

Brad Chase, Arcadis Architects (Canada) Inc., Associate Principal, Studio Manager - Living Group provided a presentation concerning a proposal at 135 Bruce Street.

Julia McCrea joined the meeting electronically at 6:52 p.m. during the presentation.

Shanjay Kailayanathan joined the meeting electronically at 6:53 p.m. during the presentation.

The Committee questioned Brad Chase, Arcadis Architects (Canada) Inc., Associate Principal, Studio Manager - Living Group.

    That based on the presentation from Arcadis Architects (Canada) Inc. concerning the development proposal for 135 Bruce Street, the developer include, to the best of its ability, three-foot-wide bathroom door openings for all units to champion accessibility in Oshawa.

Julie MacIsaac, Director, Diversity, Equity and Reconciliation provided an update concerning the StopGap program.

The Committee questioned the Director.

Councillor McConkey left the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
