Ranjit Gill, Transportation Engineer, and Michelle Whitbread, Manager, Operations Policy and Research, to provide a presentation on the use of E-Scooters in Oshawa.

  • Recommendation

    That an E-Scooters Use in Oshawa Working Group be created in order to review and provide comments at the next meeting; and,

    That the Working Group consist of three members of the Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee; and,

    That Valerie Bowler, Emily Posteraro, and Gregory Waclawek be appointed to the Working Group; and,

    That Valerie Bowler be appointed as the Chair of the Working Group.

Ian Boyd, Supervisor, Parks Facilities Maintenance, to provide a presentation on  the redevelopment project of Florell Park.

Phil Lyon, Manager, Road Operations, to provide a presentation on the City of Oshawa's policies and best practices of the City’s use of road salt and snow clearing activities.

  • Recommendation

    That based on Report OEAC-22-15, concerning use of Road Salt it is recommended:

    1. That, the City of Oshawa assess the viability of alternatives (such as sand, beet juice, and other brines) for the use of chloride salts on its roads, in an effort to reduce the usage of corrosive, environmentally toxic salts to the extent that it is possible; and, 
    2. That, the City identify salt vulnerable areas of Oshawa, and establish risk management plans accordingly (see Good Practices for Winter Maintenance in Salt Vulnerable Areas under Additional Resources); and,
    3. That, the City formulate and implement a plan to educate the public and private property owners on the detrimental environmental impacts of chloride salts and give them the tools to apply road salt more responsibly. Brochures and online materials explaining the toxicity of road salts and encouraging their responsible application should be disseminated widely.
  • Recommendation

    That Report OEAC-22-15, dated March 1, 2022, concerning the March 2022 Road Salt Working Group Report be referred back to the Road Salt Working Group for the inclusion of the information provided from the Manager, Road Operations, regarding the City of Oshawa's policies and best practices of the City’s use of road salt and snow clearing activities.

  • Recommendation

    That Report OEAC-22-16, dated February 25, 2022, concerning the City of Oshawa Boulevard By-law 136-2006 be received for information.

  • Recommendation

    That Report OEAC-22-16, dated February 25, 2022 concerning the Information Memorandum in Response to OEAC-22-11 be referred to working group to submit comments on the Boulevard By-law.

  • Recommendation

    That the meeting adjourn at 9:00 p.m.
